Prospect Centre

student studying at Prospect Technology HubThe Prospect Centre is for senior secondary students with disabilities and learning difficulties.

The centre provides students with opportunities to develop vocational, social, academic and recreational skills.

At the Prospect Centre, we:

  • work within the SACE framework
  • focus on employability skills
  • promote independence, individual responsibility and self-management
  • access VET units and training packages
  • promote positive relationships and effective conflict resolution
  • promote self-esteem and the recognition of individual worth and skills
  • interact with the community including employers, support services and significant individuals
  • promote sound work attitudes, behaviours and practices
  • help students to recognise and respond to standards of behaviour in the wider community
  • set up work experience that supports transition into employment

Prospect Centre is a transition centre and also manages the City-Based Program (formerly Hyde Street Program).

Community-based learning

Community-based learning is an essential component of the programs at the Prospect Centre. This includes:

  • work experience placements and workplace visits
  • programs which are based at other sites e.g. horticulture, hospitality, retail
  • access to health and recreation programs at West Lakes Aquatic Centre and other metropolitan sporting and recreation venues
  • interviews at Disability Employment Services (DES)
  • group excursions to develop transport skills

Transition-focused education

A student's transition program could include:

  • Negotiated Education Plan
  • Individual Education Plan
  • Personal Learning Plan
  • Transition Plan (school)
  • NAPLAN data
  • student report

All students will also develop their own transition plan at Prospect Centre.

Eligibility

Students with disabilities who are:

  • identified under the DECD Disability Support Program
  • aged 15 years or older
  • enrolled in a DECD school
